Louis Farlow

Artist Statement:

In my landscape paintings I try to capture my visual response to the variety of environments found in the American Southwest. In my search for subject matter I hike and backpack into the mountains and canyons of the Colorado Plateau, the Rocky Mountains, and the Sonoran Desert - an area encompassing portions of the states of Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. With sketchpad and camera I record my visual experiences for use in the studio. My paintings are the direct result of my personal experience of the natural environment.

My style is defined by unbroken line, clear shapes, dynamic values, expressive color and visual textures. Compositions are dynamic and emphasize visual movement. I use the visual elements and principles of design to express my personal experience of and response to the energy, dynamism, and sensuality of the ever-changing natural environment.

I maintain studios in Grand Junction, Colorado, rural San Miguel county near Norwood, Colorado, and Tucson, Arizona.
